Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, accomplishes the Nursing Department’s strategic objectives by planning and organizing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services.
Ensures quality direct patient care by nursing in assigned areas (Medical/Telemetry Unit, Emergency/Urgent Care and/or Outpatient Department).
Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Participate in and support efforts to coordinate and execute the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee’s goals and objectives in the hospital.
Successfully complete required competencies for each unit assigned to work.
Perform procedures for which RN has been trained according to written policies & procedures.
Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances including The Joint Commission Accreditation.
Oversee patient care and delegated functions in the outpatient clinic based upon the nursing process and in compliance with policy and procedure and standards of care, including general oversight of the Employee Health program.
Responsible for daily assessment of the overall quality of nursing care being provided.
Responsible for staffing assigned nursing unit taking into consideration the staffing guidelines, skill mix, and patient acuity.
Responsible for motivating, teaching, coordinating orientation, and assisting nursing department staff members in providing skilled nursing care.
Ensure confidentiality of all employee information.
Complete employee evaluations accordingly and within the required time frame.
Display a professional spirit that fosters positive working relationships.
Provide written quarterly reports when assigned.
Responsible for maintaining and updating all required training and logs (e.
g.
, Restraints, Transfusion, Code Blue Critiques, etc.
) Provide and support activities regarding implementation or hospital policy on Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities.
Provide educational materials and learning opportunities to the patient, family and/or significant other concerning diagnosis and recommended treatment.
Translate diagnosis information into Navajo language or arrange for translation for patient.
Participate in BLS training, infection control, patient safety, and fire safety in-services when indicated.
Accept and adapt to change in work area and/or work duties.
Ensure patient care services are provided and documented by appropriately trained staff.
Ensure proper provision of care to provide for physiological, psychosocial, environmental, educational, and discharge planning needs of patient.
Ensure proper facilitation is being conducted on patients prescribed medical regimen.
Follow proper medication guidelines outlined in the policy.
Administer medications, medical treatment, monitor patient’s condition and response to therapy in accordance with current nursing practice standard of care.
Collaborate with medical providers and other discipline resources in planning, implementing, and monitoring the provision of patient care services.
Coordinate ordering of medical and office supplies.
Practice infection control and patient safety procedures.
Attend mandatory nursing clinical meetings.
Maintain personal record of in-service participation.
Maintain positive working relationship with physicians.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
Review and revise departmental policies and procedures on a regular basis.
Create improvement initiatives and participates in Quality Council.
Provide “On-call” duties as assigned.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: Knowledge of effective principles and practices of education and development.
Knowledge of nursing practice and patient care.
Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
Knowledge of clinical instruments and equipment.
Knowledge in clinical departments assigned (Medical/Telemetry Unit, Outpatient, and Emergency Room/Urgent Care).
Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for administering of medications and patient care.
Knowledge of abnormal and normal cardiac monitor strips, including abnormalities or rate, or abnormally appearing complexes, of heart block.
Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.
Ability to perform effective interpersonal skills and function at a high level of independence.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing with staff and the public.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Familiarity with the Navajo Way.

Ability to interpret applicable Tribal, federal, state laws, regulations, and requirements pertaining to the practice of Nursing.
Ability to interpret The Joint Commission, CMS, and Arizona Department of Health regulations.
Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
Ability to apply critical thinking skills, analyze problems, project consequences, identify solutions, and implement recommendations.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
The employee frequently is required to walk, stand, stoop, reach, kneel and crouch.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is generally performed in a clinical department with moderate noise level, where patient care is performed.
Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
