Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, accomplishes the Medical Imaging Department’s strategic objectives by planning, organizing, and supervising the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services.
Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Manage, direct, and supervise all activities of the Medical Imaging department, and functions, including planning and development of departmental policy and procedures.
Responsible for oversight of all Medical Imaging functions including X-ray, Computed Tomography (CT), Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and clerical staff.
Responsible for the development of student clinical rotation programs, proctorship, supervision and oversight of radiology students, scheduling and development of clinical rotations, ensuring students are well prepared to sit for final board examinations.
Ability to coordinate and effectively communicate with accredited education institutions and maintain affiliation agreements.
Develop and implement an orientation program for new department employees and provide appropriate staff developmental opportunities.
Supervise the assigned personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions in a timely manner.
Conduct periodic review and/or revision of departmental job descriptions as required.
Develop department staffing schedule and timely approval of personnel time and attendance records.
Maintain adequate personnel, conduct interviews and recommendation for the hiring of qualified candidates.
Manage and monitor job performance of each employee and conducts annual performance evaluations, competency skills, initiates individual performance and individual education plans and disciplinary action as necessary.
Plan, delegate, monitor, and appraise job tasks and results of personnel in a timely manner.
Motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Develop and enforce work safety policies and procedures to include the monitoring of excessive radiation dosages.
Provide coaching, counseling, and training to ensure staff is fully trained regarding systems, policies and procedures and proper use and care of equipment.
Prepare and direct regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities.
Serve as the hospital wide Radiation Safety Officer.
Prepare and adhere to an annual operational and capital departmental budget.
Participate in recommendations for renovations, capital purchases etc.
, to maintain quality of care for patients receiving medical imaging services.
Perform regular review and/or revision of departmental policies and procedures to meet regulatory compliance standards.
Operate, maintain and supervise the operations of all fixed and portable radiographic systems and maintain the integrity and working order of equipment.
Perform duties of Diagnostic Radiology and CT services for Outpatient, Inpatient and Emergency Departments.
Assure all patient orders, lab work and consent forms are completed in a timely manner.
Develop and manage quality and safety programs and ensure compliance with hospital accreditation requirements.
Coordinate with the nursing, medical and administrative staff in the development and review of program goals and objectives for the Medical Imaging department.
Perform ongoing review and revision of the departmental quality assurance initiatives to improve and provide ongoing patient safety and quality of care.
Prepare and provide monthly and quarterly reports to the organization’s healthcare quality management program.
Maintain collegial and effective communication with other departments.
Maintain communication with financial billing office to ensure correct and current reimbursement for services provided by the department.
Provide inventory control of supplies and equipment assigned to the department.
Maintain a record on equipment preventive maintenance and quality control, as necessary.
Perform all duties as an ultrasound and/or CT/X-Ray technologist and MRI or possess the ability to supervise as needed.
Maintain clinical competency and continuing education as required by certification/licensure.
Coordinate the technology needs of the department; follow the procurement policy for the purchase of hardware and software.
Comply with the organization’s policies and procedures.
Ensure compliance with all tribal, state, federal laws, policies and regulations.
Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
Perform other duties as required.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including The Joint Commission Accreditation.
Knowledge and background of obtaining and maintaining ACR accreditation in more than one modality.
Ability to obtain and adhere to the organization’s personnel policies and procedures.
Knowledge of institutional regulations regarding patient care, fire safety, infection control, disaster plans and emergency codes.
Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
Knowledge of radiographic examinations and records management procedures.
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of medical imaging equipment and able to identify minor repairs if needed.
Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics.
Ability to recognize subtle differences between health and pathological areas.
Ability to understand and follow diagnostic procedures and documentation protocol.
Ability to operate CT, Ultrasound, and X-ray equipment at a minimum.
Ability to demonstrate cost effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment as indicated by proper use and minimal waste of supplies.
Ability to maintain adequate inventory of all supplies and equipment.
Ability to gather data information and prepare reports.
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate leadership and team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm.
Ability to report and resolve billing reimbursement issues.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way.
Ability to create and present effective presentations.
Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
Ability to make appropriate decisions and exercise independent judgment.
Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).
Skill in budget preparation and administration.
Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing reports.
Skill in providing leadership, supervision, training, and evaluating assigned staff.
Ability to think critically to analyze problems, identify solutions and make recommendations.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to position and/or palpate patients; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to walk and stand.
Employee is frequently exposed to blood, bodily fluids/tissues, and radiation.
The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office and clinical setting with moderate noise level.
Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
