BLUE RIDGE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT High School Assistant Principal/Athletic Director FLSA: Exempt – 12 Month Position Reports to: High School Principal Education/Credentials: Valid Arizona Administrative Certificate and Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree preferred from an accredited college or university.
A valid First Aid Certificate from the American Red Cross, including CPR training.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years of high school coaching experience in addition to two years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level.
Successful teaching and administrative experience in a high school, experience in the area of high school curriculum; demonstrated skill in participative management, and shared decision-making/collaboration with key stakeholders.
Under general direction, assist in the planning, development, and implementation of the policies, regulations, guidelines, and procedures about a school site interscholastic sports program; serve as a resource to administrators and interscholastic sports personnel concerning sports and recreation activities; other related functions as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Understands the underlying philosophy for a high school that matches the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs of adolescents.
Assists in administering an articulated curriculum program; regular needs assessments and reports information back to the Principal.
Relates to students in a manner that demonstrates respect for the individual while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy.
Communicates respectfully with members of the community and creates an environment that welcomes feedback, participation, and partnership within the educational process and at school activities.
Communicates effectively with the business and residential communities and participates regularly in civic activities.
Motivates employees and improves performance while enhancing morale and teamwork.
Adheres to all District-wide policies and procedures relating to handling school funds and financial resources.
Maintains a commitment to ongoing professional growth in self and others, while supporting and participating in District and site professional growth programs.
Actively promotes fund-raising and supports grant applications for the site and the District.
Demonstrates a positive attitude towards teammates, and supervisor, and remains flexible when faced with challenges and changes.
Innovative team builder and collaborative leader Knows local policies, and state and federal laws relating to minors within educational settings.
Effectively supervises and manages site operations to assure safety and efficiency.
Assists in the implementation and monitoring of special programs.
Maintains valid certification requirements and fingerprint clearance card.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive school site interscholastic sports program.
Plan, organize, and coordinate sports programs, league scheduling, and special sports activities by District policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Negotiate with sports league officials concerning regular season and playoff scheduling.
Assist in the establishment of sports program operational procedures, and in the activities and functions supporting home and away games, and in sports-related special activities.
Review, monitor, and audit the publications and materials prepared for distribution concerning athletic and activity program information.
Plan, develop, and coordinate a yearly athletic budget including the selection of materials, equipment, and supplies used in the interscholastic sports programs.
Assist in the recruitment, selection, and supervision of interscholastic sports coaches.
Confer with counsel, and advise the site administrators concerning interscholastic sports programs, special project programs, and activities, and attend meetings as appropriate.
Provide annual and ongoing training and support for all coaches concerning student-athlete preparation, oversight, and safety; including but not limited to an Emergency Response Plan for catastrophic injuries; heat illness, and concussion protocol.
Documentation shall be obtained from each participating coach—including volunteer coaches to demonstrate their participation and recognition, understanding, and acceptance of all associated coaching responsibilities.
Provide annual training for each coach concerning all AIA Byways, Rules, and Regulations.
Maintain documentation to ensure all coaches understand and accept responsibility for following all associated rules, practices, and guidelines.
Work cooperatively with parents, student-athletes, and all key stakeholders to ensure positive relationships and open communication.
Be assessable to meet with parents, students, and teachers to address concerns relating to the administration of all Blue Ridge athletic programs.
He or she shall conduct themselves with a high degree of professionalism within all communication and interaction with all key stakeholders; including parents, student-athletes, coaches, teachers, and school administrators.
Represent the interests and promote all athletic programs.
Collaborate with staff, faculty, coaches, parents, students, and administrators to ensure a positive experience for all our student-athletes.
Provide support to coaches to ensure student-athletes understand and accept all District and AIA rules associated with extracurricular participation.
Documentation must be maintained to demonstrate student-athlete and parental understanding and acceptance to comply.
Supervision of home athletic contests as required by league and school administration.
Ensure all coaches understand that extracurricular activities are an extension of the classroom; therefore, all coaches and student-athletes must conduct themselves accordingly.
Provide adequate supervision, training, and ongoing support to all coaches.
Provide direction and oversight for game schedules, tournament participation, summer sports camps, transportation, and assignment of officials, athletic clearance, final team rosters, and awards programs.
Ensure coaches adhere to all District Travel policies as they pertain to scheduling of transportation, preparing for meals, travel details, and the adherence to all District Policies, to ensure proper supervision and support of all student-athletes.
Plan, organize, coordinate, and implement parent athletic information nights; which must include informing student-athletes and parents of the various risks associated with participation in sports.
Work cooperatively with Facilities Supervisor as it relates to facility maintenance and staffing needs.
Maintains valid certification requirements and fingerprint clearance information.
Other Duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: Understand and train all coaches as to the methods, techniques, procedures, and strategies concerning player safety and support.
Understand and comply with all District and AIA Policies, regulations, and procedures about interscholastic sports and special project activities.
Collaborate with all sports organizations within the community and promote BR athletics.
Stay current with all trends in interscholastic sports and physical education instructional processes and activities.
Demonstrate the District’s Core Values; including Respect for the Individual.
Works collaboratively with all key stakeholders of the District and Community.
