General Scope and Purpose
This position is responsible for the operations and maintenance of cell sites.
Cell technicians work closely with RF Engineering, Site Development, Network Switching, Telco Engineering, and Network Operations Center (NOC) personnel to ensure cells are on the air and operating correctly.
Cell Technicians goals are to perform significant preventative maintenance in order to minimize corrective maintenance and cell “down time”.
Cell technicians are also involved in cell site acceptance.
This may include coordinating with equipment vendors and various subcontractors involved in site installations and equipment additions.
T1 acceptance testing and trouble isolation with local telephone company field employees and various control center personnel is critical.
Cell Technicians must be able to use various electronic digital test equipment such as GSM/CDMA test sets and antenna system sweep gear.
Strong computer skills are necessary as technicians are required to monitor cell sites and perform remote trouble shooting.
Must also maintain cell site records such as site logs, sweep / test printouts, preventative maintenance logs, trouble tickets, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to) Repairs or replaces damaged or faulty items in a timely manner to ensure maximum network availability.
Performs all components of cell site maintenance including: automatic/manual optimization, antenna testing and results analysis.
Performs testing, acceptance and analysis of DS0, FT1, T1, T3, OC3, and STS1 circuits including: Microwave or SONET systems, CSU, T1 interface devices, Digital Cross Connects and physical cross connects utilizing appropriate test equipment (T-BERD or equivalent) Ensures power systems are functional which includes performing and analyzing battery routines, performing voltage adjustments and PM’s on rectifiers and DC power systems.
Ensures proper maintenance of site buildings and grounds.
Performs inspection of microwave systems.
Including: performs routine preventive maintenance, equipment alarm analysis, inspection of waveguide pressure and desiccant, annual preventive maintenance on all radio types, advanced troubleshooting, basic installation and acceptance of radio and path alignment with tower crew.
Assists more experienced Site/Field Engineers in testing and repairing network equipment.
This position imposes the following physical requirements on a regular basis: Lifting tools and equipment up to 75lbs Climbing 10-15 feet on ladders Standing on altered terrain for up to 8 hours at a time Average of 16 hours/week of driving involved Required Qualifications: 1+ years wireless, cellular, or PCS telecommunications experience General understanding of grounding system design, testing and maintenance Basic understanding of System Performance statistics and Excellent oral and written communication skills Excellent problem solving and equipment trouble shooting skills Self-starter with ability to work in an unsupervised environment Clean driving record and valid Driver’s License required Desired Qualifications: AA or Technical Associates degree Knowledge of all call processing schemes Including ANALOG/CDMA/UMTS/LTE General understanding of grounding system design, testing and maintenance Basic understanding of System Performance statistics and Translations About the Company: Commnet has been the backbone of rural networks in the United States for decades.
